The story

The YMCA built this red-brick building on the Embarcadero in 1926 as its Army-Navy YMCA, housing returning servicemen. It watched the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz prison rise in the 1930s and later faded as the waterfront declined. A renovation preserved its brick exterior and maritime details when it became the 131-room Harbor Court Hotel, home to the Japanese restaurant Ozumo.
