The story
Hotel manager Noel Crickmer built a small retreat called the Desert Lodge in the 1930s near what became Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Newspaper publisher James Copley’s family later renovated and renamed it La Casa del Zorro after the native kit fox. Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan stayed here, per HHA.
