The story
Petit Jean, established in 1923 after NPS director Stephen Mather judged the land too small for a national park, is Arkansas’s first state park. CCC veterans’ Company 1781, judged Arkansas’s best camp in 1934, built the lodge about 1935. EoA calls it the only lodge the CCC built in an Arkansas state park. It was renovated 2010-12, and the state says a 2026 renovation kept key original elements.
