The story

The Woods Brothers built the first Victor Hotel, a two-story wooden building with a cone-shaped tower, in 1894. When fire swept Victor in August 1899, they rebuilt in brick and stone as the larger ‘Bank Block’, which housed the hotel, the Woods Brothers Investment Company and the First National Bank. The hotel says it keeps one of the last working birdcage elevators west of the Mississippi.

The ghost story

Hotel lore says that in winters when the ground was frozen, bodies were carried up the elevator and stored on the fourth floor until spring, and that those residents haunt it today. The most-reported ghost is 'Eddie', a man said to have fallen down the elevator shaft.
