The story
Coal magnate John C. Osgood, who in 1892 merged his Colorado Fuel Company with the Colorado Coal and Iron Company to form Colorado Fuel and Iron, founded Redstone as a coking town. In 1902 he built the inn for single miners and guests, with amenities the nomination calls unheard of in the industry at the time. Frank Kistler later added the wing that gives the building its U shape, and its square clock tower rises a full story above the roof. Since Osgood’s death in 1925 it has passed through several owners as a working hotel and restaurant.
