The story
Boulder’s Commercial Association raised the money from local stockholders beginning in 1905-06, and the Boulder Hotel Company chose a design by William Redding & Son built around a central court under an Italian stained-glass ceiling. The name combines ‘Boulder’ and ‘Colorado’. The hotel retired its debt in 1925, struggled through the Depression, and opened the Catacombs bar in 1969. Renovations in the early 1980s and annexes by Junge Reich Magee brought it to 160 rooms, and its original Otis elevator still runs.
