The story

The two-story red brick building’s arched cornice bears the inscriptions ‘1892’ and ‘Rochester’, and it fronts 2nd Avenue one block east of Main. About 1909 a front facade addition and rear additions were built, and the building was partitioned into some thirty rooms. The nomination calls it a working-class hotel and boarding house for tourists, salesmen and long-term tenants less affluent than those drawn to Durango’s more elaborate hotels such as the Strater. A 2022 renovation turned the former 33-room boarding house into 15 rooms with private baths.
