The story
The site at 14th and Arapahoe streets held the brick cottage Governor Evans built for his family in 1863, and in 1911 architects retained by Evans,, William E. and Arthur A. Fisher, designed the Tramway Company tower and car barn. During the 1920 Tramway strike the building became a fortress with armed guards on the roof. Denver’s trolleys ran downtown until June 3, 1950, after which the University of Colorado at Denver used the offices. Tramway Hotel LLC bought the building in 1994, and with a State Historical Fund grant it reopened in 1999 as Hotel Teatro.
