The story
The building was the Russell Street Church of Christ, a red-brick Richardsonian Romanesque church with two towers on the Russell Street side and stained-glass lunettes reading ‘Faith, Hope and Charity’ and ‘Jehovah is in His Holy Temple’. The Edgefield nomination places it among the neighborhood’s three prominent churches. As a hotel it kept the stained-glass windows and old brick walls and reused the pews as headboards. The hotel donates part of each night’s rate to local homeless ministries.
