The story
The Pritchett-Thomas Company of Nashville built the Art Deco James Robertson Hotel in 1929 for over $1 million to designs by Marr & Holman, one of many downtown high-rises completed that decade. By its 1984 National Register listing the hotel rooms had been remodeled into elderly housing. HRI Lodging and Hyatt reopened the building as the 191-room Holston House in January 2018 after a 2017 renovation, keeping Art Deco features such as the lobby’s Tennessee pink marble; the hotel has two 12th-floor penthouse suites and a rooftop pool bar.
