The story
Irish-born orphan Margaret Haughery, known locally as ‘Our Margaret’, used money from her bakery to found the Saint Vincent’s Infant Asylum in 1861. After her death in 1882 a statue of her was erected in 1884, which the hotel calls the second public monument to a woman in American history. The building was restored and opened in 2021 as a 75-room hotel with San Lorenzo restaurant and the Paradise Lounge.
