The story

La Baronne Realty Company bought the Poydras Street site in 1899 and completed the hotel in 1907, when Justin Denechaud took it over as the New Hotel Denechaud. New owners renamed it the DeSoto Hotel around the start of World War I, and its penthouse was the first home of radio station WDSU, whose ‘D’ stood for DeSoto. It was relaunched as Le Pavillon in the 1970s (Wikipedia: 1971), with European decor and statuary, and joined Historic Hotels of America in 1994.
