The story
The hotel says naturalist and painter John James Audubon lived in Cottage One during the winter of 1821 and used Cottage Seven as a studio while working on The Birds of America. Elizabeth Taylor stayed in Cottage Three, by the hotel’s count 27 times. Today the seven one- and two-bedroom cottage suites surround a courtyard with a saltwater pool.
The ghost story
Guests and staff report sightings of a petite woman with long white hair and a soldier softly humming tunes, often in Cottage Four or on the balcony over the pool, according to the hotel.
