The story
The inn on the Chisholm Trail opened as the Salado Hotel and was later the Shady Villa, and HHA and the inn report that Sam Houston, George Custer and Jesse James passed through. Dion and Ruth Van Bibber renamed it the Stagecoach Inn in 1943, and Ruth’s tearoom food made it famous. Around 1960 the owners added a motel resort with a clover-leaf pool, lobby and lodging buildings; the National Register listing was expanded in 2017 to include it.
