The story

Colonel Thomas H. Ruth came to De Smet in 1880, founded the Kingsbury County Bank with his brother and served as mayor. He built this house about 1900 and died in 1908. It was converted to apartments in 1929, when the front porch was removed. Larry and Connie Cheney restored it in 1989 and opened the bed and breakfast the next year, and the porch was rebuilt from photographs in 1996.
