The story
Alonzo Ward built a first hotel here in 1894 to designs by Joseph Schwarz, and it burned in 1926. The six-story replacement opened on May 15, 1928. Condominiums now fill the floors above the hotel. A 2022 remodel returned hotel rooms to the building: the hotel counts 18, and Dakota News Now reported in 2023 that they are brand new, on the second floor, inside the 1928 building.
