The story
F.D. Smith ran a feed store here, with delivery wagons loading in the basement and leaving by a ramp to the street. The building sat beside two railroad passenger stations and held the city post office from 1897 to 1907, with the public library and offices on the second floor. Chalk Wagner bought it in 1921 and opened the Wagner Hotel, and the storefront received black and white glass tiles in 1937. The present owner bought it in April 2020 and removed the gaming floor from the lobby in 2022.
