The story
The Treasury’s Acting Supervising Architect James A. Wetmore selected Omaha firms Kimball, Steele & Sandham and George B. Prinz in 1931 to design the building, which rose on the site of the first U.S. Courthouse and Post Office. Its thirteen stories end in an Art Deco ziggurat of setbacks, faced in granite and limestone. Federal agencies occupied it until the Army Corps of Engineers left in July 2008. Developers bought it in December 2011 and a $23 million conversion, keeping the facade and features such as terrazzo floors, opened as a 152-room Residence Inn in October 2013.
