The story
Dallas businessmen persuaded Anheuser-Busch co-founder Adolphus Busch to build the hotel, which opened in 1912 as the city’s first luxury hotel and long dominated the skyline. KRLD radio broadcast from the hotel beginning in 1936, and its Century Room had a retractable ice rink for touring revues for 35 years from 1930. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip stayed here on their 1991 state visit to Dallas, and a two-year restoration began in 2016.
