The story
Chester and Raymond Cook of Chicago commissioned Aquila Court from Holabird & Roche, and the nomination calls it one of the last commissions that firm received; it was under construction in 1923. The four-story main block and two-story studio wing were set around a courtyard with an Italian-style garden, and the building housed physicians, dentists and artists. It was gutted and converted to a hotel in 1996 as the Westin Aquila, later became a Sheraton, and has been the Magnolia since Stout Street Hospitality bought it in 2006. The courtyard survives and hosts events.
