The story
Marion citizens formed a hotel company in July 1885 after failing to attract an outside builder, selling 160 shares at $100 each. The three-story stone hotel was finished by September 1886 at a cost of $25,000 and was the largest in the county. Richard A. Lundgren bought it in 1956 and it closed in 1967; a 1974 buyer planned to demolish it and reuse the stone until funding fell through. Van Anderson reopened it as apartments in 1977, and Jim and Nancy Cloutier restored it as a bed and breakfast that opened in 2009. Jeremy and Tammy Ensey bought it in July 2016 and expanded it to 12 suites.
