The story
The site was a town-square park with a two-story bandstand, and the nomination says the bandstand’s lower level was where Osage headright oil royalty payments were dispensed. Attorney Charles Gray built the five-story flatiron in 1913 and practiced there for over 60 years; during the oil boom it housed lawyers and other offices. The nomination found its marble stair and interior woodwork intact in 1986. The family behind the Mayo Hotel led a $3 million renovation from 2017 that turned the offices into 20 rooms across from the Pioneer Woman Mercantile.
