The story
Charles F. Colcord built the Colcord Building as Oklahoma City’s first skyscraper, using reinforced concrete after seeing the damage from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The architect, William A. Wells, was a student of Louis Sullivan, and the nomination calls the legend that Sullivan approved every part of the design unconfirmed. Only the east wing of a planned two-wing design was built. Developer Paul Coury converted the office building to a hotel, which reopened in 2006.
