The story

Canemount was built in the mid-1850s as the residence of the Murdock family, on a plantation of more than 1,000 acres. The nomination says several mid-nineteenth-century outbuildings survive, including the carriage house and board-and-batten tenant houses. A hunting club used it as a camp before Ray Forrest of Louisiana bought it about 1982 and began restoring it. Today it operates on 40 acres, with guests in three or four converted outbuildings rather than the main house.
