The story
Thomas Henderson, a cotton commission merchant, bought the corner of Pearl and Washington streets in 1858, on land his family had held since 1815. The nomination calls the house probably the last great mansion completed in the Natchez area before the Civil War, and one of only four antebellum mansions in the center of town. It later belonged to the Britton banking family. The Natchez Garden Club now uses it as headquarters and shows a costume museum on daily tours. The sources read do not address enslaved people in the Henderson household.
