The story
Josephine Kline built the hotel in 1904 as the Elite, one of thirteen hotels raised in downtown Livingston between 1884 and 1914 to serve Northern Pacific passengers. In the mid-1920s the Murray family foreclosed on Kline, took over and renamed it. A 1905 hand-crank elevator is one of its best-known features. Filmmaker Sam Peckinpah’s name lives on in its largest suite, and Anthony Bourdain named it among his favorite hotels in 2015.
