The story
A crude bath house and tavern stood at the springs by 1865, and Abel Quaintance built the first part of the present hotel in 1883. C. W. Kerrick added a Queen Anne section between 1888 and 1891. A 1909-10 expansion gave the complex its Spanish Colonial Revival look, and the exterior has changed little since. The inn now runs as a spa and retreat center, and one guide describes it as alcohol-free.
