The story
The Finlen and the Fox Theater were the only two substantial buildings put up in Butte’s business district in the 1920s, when a copper glut slowed the city. Opened New Year’s Day 1924, the nine-story hotel was modeled in miniature on New York’s Hotel Astor. Great Falls architect George Shanley designed it, and James Finlen, son of mining pioneer Miles Finlen, financed it. New owners acquired the hotel in 2018.
