The story

The Great Northern Railway built Many Glacier Hotel in 1914-15 on Swiftcurrent Lake as the largest of its Swiss-chalet hotels in Glacier National Park; construction finished by July 4, 1915. A four-and-a-half-story Annex No. 2 was added in 1917 and joined to the lobby by an enclosed passageway. The Ptarmigan Dining Room was restored to its historic design in 2011, and the hotel was partially renovated in 2016. It is the largest hotel in the park and a contributing part of the Great Northern Railway Buildings National Historic Landmark.

The ghost story

Billings author Karen Stevens suggests in her 2013 book Glacier Ghost Stories that the hotel may be the most haunted place in the park, the Daily Inter Lake reported. She tells of a 9-year-old guest who saw a woman in a red dress in his room, noise like a loud party from an unoccupied Room 308, and guests woken by the feeling of someone sitting on their bed; the late winter caretaker Steve Lautenbach reported finding an empty wine bottle in a hallway and the wine case open with no one in the building.
