The story
Businesswoman Bell Miller built the building as luxury apartments in 1909, designed by Springfield architect George H. Helmle. It was renovated in 1994 and the apartments became guest rooms with private baths, and it was listed on the National Register in 1995. It sits in the Aristocracy Hill neighborhood two blocks from the State Capitol and is now run by Conn’s Hospitality Group, with a conservatory used for events of up to 300.
The ghost story
Legends of America relays the legend that original owner Bell Miller 'refused to leave' her dream home; staff and guests report a warm voice, a figure in doorways, moved objects and elevators stopping on the wrong floors, attributed to 'a benign and friendly spirit.'
