The story
Davenport businessman W.F. Miller built the hotel for $1 million on the site of the Saratoga Hotel; its first seven floors and 225 rooms opened on February 16, 1915, and four more floors in 1920 brought it to 400 rooms. Guests included Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, Barack Obama, Carl Sandburg and Jack Dempsey, and Cary Grant was staying here when he died in Davenport. After decades of decline, including a 2006 fire, Restoration St. Louis restored it and reopened it on December 15, 2010. It joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection on March 6, 2013.
