The story
At the Cheyenne Industrial Club’s dinner in December 1909, its president declared the city needed a modern hotel, and investors including Senator Francis E. Warren formed the Cheyenne Securities Company to build it. Architect William R. Dubois’s Plains Hotel opened on March 10, 1911, just 15 months later, with 100 rooms. A five-story annex followed in 1927. Its owner put it up for sale in 2023 at $5.85 million; a local investor offered the asking price in August 2024, and a Wyoming Tribune Eagle headline that month reported the owner denying it would be sold.
The ghost story
Hotel legend says a bride named Rosie shot her new husband and another woman and then herself during her honeymoon, and Wyoming's tourism office reports that 'flashes' of the three are seen on the second floor.
