The story
Gilbert Stanley Underwood, architect of Yosemite’s Ahwahnee, designed Jackson Lake Lodge for John D. Rockefeller Jr.’s Grand Teton Lodge and Transportation Company, and it was dedicated in June 1955. Its 60-foot lobby windows frame Jackson Lake and the Teton Range. The landmark nomination calls it Underwood’s last major work and an influential early example of modern design in a national park. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003.
