The story
Daniel and Hubert Burnham, sons of Daniel H. Burnham, designed the Carbide and Carbon Building in 1929. Popular legend holds that its dark green and gold colors were inspired by a gold-foiled champagne bottle. Its lobby, with fine bronzework and black marble, is a classic of Art Deco design. Pendry Chicago now occupies the tower with 364 rooms and suites.
