The story
A British insurer built the London Guarantee & Accident Building in 1922-1923 as its American headquarters, on part of the land once occupied by Fort Dearborn (1803-56). Architect Alfred S. Alschuler’s Beaux-Arts tower is one of four 1920s buildings framing the Michigan Avenue Bridge, with 333 N. Michigan, Tribune Tower and the Wrigley Building. Oxford Capital Group bought the building in 2013 and redeveloped it into the 452-room LondonHouse hotel; the original rooftop dome is now a private event space.
