The story
Gilbert Stanley Underwood designed the lodge for the Union Pacific’s Utah Parks Company; the stone-and-timber central section dates from 1924-25, with wings added in 1926, and the deluxe cabins were built about 1929. The lodge and its 15 deluxe cabins were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 as among the finest surviving railroad-era park architecture. Today guests sleep in three suites and a studio on the lodge’s second floor, in the historic Western Cabins, or in the later Sunrise and Sunset motel buildings.
