The story

The Wagon Wheel opened on Route 66 as a stone café and filling station in 1936, and three Ozark sandstone motel buildings in a Tudor Revival style followed around 1937, set back from the road with garages for guests’ cars. Early advertising promised stone cottages with private baths at $2.50 to $3 a night. The motel has operated continuously since 1938, its 19 rooms were restored in 2010, and it was listed on the National Register in 2003.
