The story
Smith, Rea and Lovitt designed the 14-story clubhouse of the private Kansas City Club in 1917; it was built from 1918 to 1922 in a Gothic-influenced three-part vertical scheme. It served as the club’s home for almost eighty years until a 2001 merger. A developer then turned the lower floors into a banquet hall and the upper floors into lofts, and in 2020 the building was converted into Hotel Kansas City.
