The story
The hotel was built in 1924, when most guests had business at Peter French’s P Ranch or the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. The U.S. Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife restored and enlarged it in 1937-38 with Civilian Conservation Corps labor, and teachers at the Frenchglen School once boarded there. Oregon Parks and Recreation took it over in 1973; the historic hotel has eight rustic rooms with bathrooms down the hall, plus four rooms in the newer Drover’s Inn.
