The story

German immigrant brewer Jacob Weinhard, nephew of Portland brewer Henry Weinhard, put up the two-story brick building on Main Street around 1890 as a saloon and billiard hall with a lodge hall upstairs. About half of it later burned. Dan and Ginny Butler converted it into the Weinhard Hotel in the early 1990s, and new owner Padraic Slattery reopened it as Hotel Hardware, with 15 rooms, in 2024.
