The story

The Montvale Block was built in 1899 on West First Avenue and is one of Spokane’s oldest surviving single-room-occupancy hotels, part of a string of SRO buildings that still form a continuous streetfront. It later served as apartments and other uses and stood empty for years before a renovation reopened it as a boutique hotel, in 2005 per secondary sources. It was listed on the National Register in 1998.
