The story
The Rainier National Park Company built Paradise Inn in 1916-17 in the subalpine meadows of Paradise Valley, to designs by the Tacoma firm Heath, Gove and Bell, and it opened on July 1, 1917. An annex followed in 1920 and a mezzanine was added around the lobby in 1925. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 and still opens each summer with 121 rooms, many sharing hall bathrooms.
