The story

The Arctic Building was built for the Arctic Club, a social club of men who had made money in the Alaska gold rush, and is known for the terra cotta walrus heads on its facade. Architect A. Warren Gould designed it; the nomination dates it to 1917. The City of Seattle sold the building in 2005 and it opened as the 120-room Arctic Club Hotel in 2008, later flying the DoubleTree flag. After a 2022 receivership sale it is run as The Arctic Club Hotel by the Oxford Collection of Bend, Oregon.

The ghost story

The Seattle Times' guide to haunted hotels ties the fifth floor to Congressman Marion Zioncheck, who died in a fall from his fifth-floor office window in 1936; visitors report elevator doors opening and closing on their own, footsteps in empty halls, and pacing and a freezing breeze in room 517.
