The story

The building opened in 1926 as the Claremont Hotel, one of the hotels Stephen Berg built after the Denny Regrade leveled this part of downtown. During World War II it housed workers brought in for the shipyards and served the Women’s Army Corps. It became Hotel Ändra, a Scandinavian-themed boutique hotel, in 2004 and was refreshed in 2022.

The ghost story

The Seattle Times' guide to haunted hotels says guests at the former Claremont claim to hear jazz and shattering glass from empty upper floors and to glimpse a woman in 1930s dress in the halls; some whisper that her story ended in a fall from the ninth floor, though no one knows for sure.
