The story
The Olympic Hotel was built by the Community Hotel Corporation, a company financed by thousands of local shareholders, on the Metropolitan Tract, the original downtown site of the University of Washington. The New York firm George B. Post & Sons designed it in the Italian Renaissance style; construction began in July 1923 and the hotel opened in 1924. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and today operates as the Fairmont Olympic, a Historic Hotels of America member.
