The story
Captain John Lambert, nephew of U.S. Senator John Lambert, built the three-and-a-half-story fieldstone tavern and inn in 1812, while a wooden bridge to New Hope was being built across the Delaware. In 1814 the senator had a post office set up in the building with his nephew as postmaster, and the village became Lambert’s Ville. A four-story Italianate masonry wing was added in the later 19th century. It still operates as a hotel with a restaurant and meeting rooms.
