The story
Freeman Thorp, nephew of Fish Creek founder Asa Thorp, began building the Queen Anne house in 1902. He died on October 3, 1903, when the steamship Erie L. Hackley capsized in a squall, and his widow Jessie began renting rooms to tourists. Under names including Cedar Ridge, Breezy Hill and The Heritage, the house took guests into the 1960s, and after restoration it reopened as a bed and breakfast in 1986. The house and its cottages were listed on the National Register in 1997.
