The story
The City of Baltimore built the Recreation Pier for more than $1 million to a design by Theodore Wells Pietsch I, and it opened on August 20, 1914 with the harbormaster’s office below and a recreation center and dance hall above. It served the largely immigrant Fells Point community and was a landing for ferries carrying immigrants to the Locust Point immigration station. From 1993 to 1999 the building stood in as police headquarters in the TV series Homicide: Life on the Street. Sagamore Development bought it in 2014 and reopened it as the Sagamore Pendry in March 2017; Montage International acquired the hotel in September 2025 and renamed it Pendry Baltimore.
