The story
Charlie Boostrom came north in 1909, guided on the Gunflint Trail from 1911, and with his wife Petra opened Clearwater Lake Lodge in 1915 as the first resort on the trail, at first with tents around a cabin. He began gathering logs in 1922, and the log lodge was finished in 1926 with a dining room, kitchen, stone hearth and 14 rooms upstairs. Charlie built furniture in the winters, and his dining tables, chairs and diamond-willow pieces are still in use; the lodge was listed on the National Register in 1985.
