The story
Northstar Center opened in 1963 as the first mixed-use development in Minneapolis, combining the Cargill Building, a parking ramp and a hotel, the Northstar Inn, on the block bounded by Sixth and Seventh streets and Second and Marquette avenues. Its skyway across Seventh Street to Baker Center is the oldest surviving link in the city’s skyway system. The complex was listed on the National Register in 2016, and the former Northstar Inn now operates as Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown.
